Welcome!
I'm so glad you're here.

Hi there! my name is Emma!

Mind and Energy was originally founded in 2015 under the name Youth Nurture, with the initial purpose of teaching mindfulness to young people—a passion that stemmed from my personal journey as both a mother and a trained counsellor.

At the time, I'd trained with youth mindfulness, I wanted to bring mindfulness into schools. I also imagined teaching mindfulness to my son in a peaceful, tidy living room after breakfast each morning, believing this would set him up for perfect days and a perfect life. Like many parents, I was chasing an ideal that doesn’t really exist. The reality was very different: there was rarely time, and when there was, he simply wasn’t interested—because what child wants to sit still? As for the pristine living room and perfect life, I quickly learned those were illusions. But what remained true, and still is, is that mindfulness is a powerful and essential tool—not a luxury, but a necessity.

My personal connection to this work deepened when my son began to experience anxiety during his primary school years. Like many parents, I struggled with guilt and self-blame, questioning everything from how I fed him as a baby to how much time we spent together. Eventually, we sought support from a counsellor. The simple exercises and strategies we were given opened a new path for both of us. I already held an HNC in Counselling and had later completed a degree in Social Work, though I hadn’t pursued either professionally at that point. However, this experience reignited something in me. I began using my background to explore how I could help others in similar situations.

While mindfulness was my entry point into mental health, it was Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that offered me a comprehensive toolkit. It helped me understand the workings of the human brain—why we behave the way we do, and how we can challenge and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

As my practice evolved, I began working first with adults, then gradually expanded to support children and young people, complementing my work with further training and, most importantly, learning from the young people themselves. This shift prompted a rebranding. Mind and Energy reflects the philosophy that mental wellbeing is deeply interconnected with physical and emotional health. The mind and body are not separate; they communicate constantly. Healing requires a holistic approach—one that addresses not only our thoughts but also our emotions and the body’s responses.

If you are a parent visiting this website, please take a moment for yourself and breathe. I understand you’re here because you are concerned about your child. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, but seeking support is a brave and powerful first step. If we speak and either of us feels I’m not the right fit, I will do everything I can to guide you toward someone who is. You do not have to navigate this journey alone.

While I specialise in working with young people—believing that early intervention is the best form of mental health support—my work with children has given me profound insights into the adults I support as well. Each of us carries traces of our childhood. The experiences that shaped us early in life continue to influence us as adults. Together, we can explore what’s affecting you now, uncover the roots of those issues, and work toward lasting change.
